Earlier this year, the insurance company Intacto Insurance was popping champagne after a surge in new customers, thanks to (frankly mediocre) marketing tactics and fresh policies. Now, they’re facing a sobering reality, reporting a whopping $10 million loss despite the influx of clients.
Turns out, the hefty costs of snagging all those new customers, combined with a sudden increase of claims from unpredictable weather, have put a serious dent in their finances. Boy, are they in trouble. Their bold growth plan pumped up their customer numbers, but unexpected expenses and sky-high payouts due to water damage from leaking roofs have turned their anticipated victory march into a stumble.
Intacto representatives blame the construction company behind the majority of the affected buildings, Flatkeep Development, saying that it’s their “stupid business model” and “incompetent workers” that are the reasons for the damaged roofing.
Analysts are now watching closely, wondering if Intacto can tighten the purse strings and ride out the storm, or if this financial hiccup will become a full-blown headache.
